Embracing our Humanness Amidst the Year-End Chaos,
As the year comes to a close, have you felt the overwhelming need to escape it all? The mounting pressures, the endless to-do lists, the constant hum of “should” that seems to echo louder than ever?

We live in a world that equates busyness with worthiness, especially during the holiday season. The expectations to perform, to achieve, and to check every box on an ever-growing list feel suffocating. Did you write Christmas cards this year? No? Are you a failure for not doing so? Will people forget you, ridicule you, or question your place in their lives because of it?

These are the preconceived notions we’ve constructed in society, boxes we willingly climb into year after year. But it’s time to pause and ask: Why? Why do we allow ourselves to be consumed by these pressures?

Freeing Ourselves from the “Shoulds”

The word should is a powerful force, often rooted in guilt, obligation, and a fear of falling short. But here’s the truth: it is humanly impossible to do everything, to fulfill every expectation, and to achieve it all at once. And that’s okay.

We’ve somehow come to believe that success means checking every box, reaching every goal, and meeting every expectation. But success isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress. It’s about celebrating the steps we take, no matter how small, and finding joy in the journey—not just the destination.

Slowing Down in a World of Speed

In a world dominated by technology—where everything moves faster, more efficiently, and with greater ease—there’s an unspoken expectation that we, too, should operate at that same speed. But are we really designed to?

My gut says no.

The reason so many of us feel exhausted, disappointed, or “not enough” is because we’re trying to keep up with an impossible pace. We’re not machines. We’re human. And humans need time—to digest, to process, to rest.
